Many people live their whole lives behind the mask as I have written about before in my blogs. In my book, MURTURE, I devote a chapter to the question of “who am I really?” Most people struggle to know the answer and that is an indicator that we humans may have “some” ideas about our inner being but are not in touch with all its parts so we rely on performance, roles, or others ideas of ourself. WE may also have set up a false self that protects a huge inner portion of us so we begin to think our false self is the real self.
Given all of these things, how do you go about finding a whole and integrated true entity within? It does require some internal digging. The main room inside all humans is the unconscious room where all the stuff of the past is jammed in together: good, bad and ugly! This is why most people do not explore it. It is filled with pain, innocence, vulnerability and some scary events that we felt shame or guilt or fear around. Those feelings were unpleasant so we rerouted our brain to avoid them. This is why it is unconscious. We actually forgot we did that. So, while it was a good survivor skill, we tucked away some really good treasures in among those painful feelings.
The feeling of not being good enough is inside all of us and leads us to hiding our true self. This rejected part of us was made from the dictates of the external world coming at us when we were little and afraid. Since childhood is a time of being told right from wrong much of the time, children learn to hide their imperfect feelings in one way or another. This causes a whole spectrum of unconscious feelings they do not understand. Multiple things will happen that leave a child feeling abandoned and have negative feelings about their true self.
This true self is actually inside in good shape because it did get protected once we decide to go exploring. The problem is, however, all the bad memories that are also still in tact from the way we hid them at the time. WE do need both that pain and the treasure to combine and give us our self back and find joy as we begin living out of the reality of the authentic parts of us rather than masking and pretending so we end up feeling badly much of the time.
Good news! The ONE who made us is God. God wants us to be free to be in truth so we have an automatic, Divine and loving perfect partner to go exploring. When we listen and feel guided by God’s love for us, there is so much help, counsel, comfort and healing that happens, it is hard to believe it. It is also hard to believe we ever thought we needed to hide our beautiful inner being in the first place. The process may take awhile but it is well worth it. Get a journal and begin asking questions from the past to yourself and write down your thoughts. I describe the process and the path into your unconscious being that will reveal the real you in my book, MURTURE.
Awaken Your True Self so you can continue maturing that and grow into spiritual maturity!!!!
